For at least three decades, we’ve known that the funding model for EMS is inadequate and, eventually, unsustainable. Thanks to many factors, not the least of which has been the impact of COVID-19 on transport volume, costs, staffing and more, these financial struggles have become even more urgent. Low reimbursement rates from Medicare and the constant jousting with insurance companies put pressure on how we operate and our ability to survive. EMS agencies across the nation have shut down or been forced to alter their level of service. Organizations and clinicians are on the brink, just months, weeks or even days from insolvency. Others are finding ways to survive, but with a hazy future ahead.
In 2022 and beyond, we now have the addition of the No Surprises Act, the continuation of the ET3 model and efforts to seek reimbursement for treatment in lieu of transport, along with countless other changes or potential changes ahead.
Join Lisa Hawke, JD, and Roxanne Peek, MBA, as they discuss the current EMS reimbursement landscape and strategies to maximize your income, streamline your processes and identify ways to enhance your income stream.
