PINNACLE LEADERSHIP SERIES: Way Beyond the Street: Leadership Lessons from a Lifetime in EMS

Thursday - July 28 - 9:00 am - 10:15 am

Presenters: Jay Fitch, PhDAnthony Minge, EdD

“When I first met Jay Fitch, he was a street medic and he was wondering where his career in EMS would lead him. Like so many of us, he was torn between the satisfaction of providing emergency care on the streets and the desire to influence the system at a higher level—beyond the streets.

“Once he made the first big step into EMS management, Jay never looked back. Through diligent self-preparation and courageous acceptance of ever larger challenges, he became one the best examples of upward mobility in the EMS field. In the process, the character of the man was apparent as he assumed the role of mentor, attracting young people with whom shared his knowledge, skills and insight as they sought a career beyond the street.”  –James O. Page, JD from his foreword to the book Beyond the Street, published in 1988

The late Jim Page wrote those words 34 years ago, when Jay’s management career was just a decade in the making. Since then, his engagement in EMS has only grown, as a leader, builder of advanced EMS systems, consultant, entrepreneur, educator and, most important, a mentor to so many.

For the past 15 years, in the popular Pinnacle Leadership Series, Jay has outlined a contemporary leadership concept and interpreted it in a hands-on way to provide practical lessons. This year Jay takes key events in his own life to reveal universal lessons for leaders. You’ll not want to miss his inspiring story, as told through a conversation with his colleague and friend, Anthony Minge.
