LEVERAGING CLINICAL TECHNOLOGIES: THE TRANSITION FROM INTERVENTION TO DIAGNOSTICS

    VIEW DESCRIPTION

EMS has traditionally focused on interventions to mitigate severe illness and injury followed by rapid transport. The endless debates of “stay and play” versus “load and go” and the value and impact of EMS interventions on morbidity and mortality continues. But perhaps the discussion moving forward should not be focused on the effect of EMS treatments of life-threatening emergencies, but instead on improving diagnostic ability in the field in order to get patients the right care at the right time in right place. In this session, emerging diagnostic technologies will be evaluated—which ones will fundamentally change how EMS makes a difference for patients, and which ones will simply end up gathering dust?

Thomas Judge, a practicing paramedic, serves as the Executive Director of LifeFlight of Maine. With an extensive background in pre-hospital emergency medical services and air medicine he has served in both the public and non-government sectors.
