IN PURSUIT OF SUSTAINABILITY: BUILDING A FISCALLY SOUND MIH PROGRAM

    VIEW DESCRIPTION

For a number of progressive EMS systems, mobile integrated healthcare has served as a positive mechanism to better serve both patients and payers. But for other organizations, MIH has been a shiny new toy, left alone when the batteries wear out and then quietly discarded.

This session outlines strategies, data, and evidence used by successful mobile integrated healthcare programs that are moving from grant funded to locally sustainable. It will also outline why others have failed to achieve positive outcomes.

    You will learn:

    • How to articulate the value of a multi-payer reimbursement plan that allows for long term project sustainability
    • The importance of broad-based community partners in the development of a multidisciplinary collaborative
    • How technology supports MIH evolution to a larger role in post-acute care
    • Five failure factors you should avoid in MIH

Brenda Staffan is the MIH Project Director for the Regional EMS Authority in Reno, Nevada; Steve Murphy is a senior executive with experience integrating health-related businesses, including EMS, in value-based delivery models; Alison Goldstein is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the project lead of the Tri-County 911 Service Coordination Program in greater Portland, Oregon; Paul Bollinger, MPH is the Senior Project Manager for Health Share of Oregon.
