TRAIN YOUR BRAIN: EVIDENCE-BASED STRATEGIES FOR LEADING OTHERS

    VIEW DESCRIPTION

In this day and age, leaders are more “connected” than ever—yet many have lost the most important connection of all: the human one. In this Pinnacle Power Seminar, participants will learn about the neuro-psychology of leadership and how your brain and the brains of those on your team work for and against effective leadership.

Leveraging the strength of our relationships is perhaps the greatest measure of the quality of our lives and leadership. It is also a key predictor of our sense of internal joy and contentment. Our relationships should be the place where we act our best and give our best. Strong relationships are based on the willingness to be vulnerable, engendering trust.

This session will look at how cultural changes are driving fundamental ways EMS leaders manage, guide and operate their organizations. You will learn:

    • How effective leaders engage their team’s brainpower
    • How to flex the “change muscle” in your brain
    • To use technology to support but not replace key human values
    • To create a new paradigm for thinking, behaving and communicating within your organization

You’ll learn from a dream team of leadership educators, including Mike Taigman, FirstWatch Improvement Guide; David Nelson, DMin, Senior Associate, Fitch & Associates; Jim Marshall, MA, director of the 911 Training Institute; and Jim Lanier, MPA, Technical Services Director for the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, Gainesville, Florida.

ENVISIONING EMS IN 2050: CREATING A FOUNDATION FOR THE FUTURE

    VIEW DESCRIPTION

It has been said that we can’t predict the future, but we can invent it. Two decades ago leaders from across EMS created the Agenda for the Future, paving the way for many recent advances to the nation’s EMS systems. Now it is time for the EMS community to come together again to look beyond the next few years and create a vision for what a patient-centered, evidence-based EMS system will look like in more than 30 years—and the steps needed to get there.

Veteran EMS visionary Mike Taigman, facilitator for EMS Agenda 2050, will be joined by Jon Krohmer, MD, director of the NHTSA Office of EMS, as they lead a conversation about the project and the future of EMS in the United States.

HOW THE QUALITY MOVEMENT GOT HIJACKED (AND WHAT EMS LEADERS CAN DO ABOUT IT)

    VIEW DESCRIPTION

More than 15 years ago, the Institute of Medicine defined high-quality care as doing the right thing (delivering the healthcare services that are truly needed), at the right time (when a patient needs them), and in the right way (using appropriate tests or procedures).

But strange things happened along the path toward improving EMS quality. What began as a drive to help patients was twisted to be more about judging and dismissing caregivers, rather than recognizing and developing them into better providers.

Ed Racht, MD, AMR’s Chief Medical Officer, and Mike Taigman, Improvement Guide for FirstWatch, two of the nation’s leading experts on quality improvement, will entertain and enlighten as they share how to prevent this phenomenon in your organization and make sure your quality programs are truly focused on quality.
