WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW CAN HURT YOU: HOW TO MANAGE REGULATORY AND OTHER INVESTIGATIONS

    VIEW DESCRIPTION

EMS executives are involved in incident investigations on a regular basis, both when conducting internal inquiries and when approached by outside investigators. This session is practical and hands on, with experienced investigators, law enforcement officers, and attorneys demonstrating strategies and tactics for both conducting and responding to investigations.

The session will culminate in a “mock” investigation and interview, demonstrating real-world examples of how to conduct an investigation, defend yourself and your organization, and answer questions should you end up in the hot seat.

    You will learn:

    • Strategies and tactics to conduct a defensible investigation
    • What to do when an outside investigator arrives at your door
    • Ways to avoid the investigation in the first place
    • Consequences of common organizational mistakes

Well-known EMS attorneys Matt Streger, JD, and Kevin Fairlie, JD, along with seasoned investigator Robert Fuller, provide an environment that will open your eyes and make you laugh as you learn about this important topic.

“BENDING THE CURVE” TO ACHIEVE FISCAL SUSTAINABILITY

    VIEW DESCRIPTION

In healthcare “bending the curve” means fundamentally changing the conditions of a problem so that the result improves, slowing the rise in the cost of care. In EMS, bending the curve means establishing the conditions that will improve savings to the healthcare system as a whole—and getting recognized and paid for your service.

This interactive session challenges participants to improve outcomes when negotiating integrated service delivery contracts; determine service vulnerabilities by using a fraud focused risk assessment; improve documentation; avoid the problems associated with surprise medical bills; and look beyond pro-forma numbers to bend the curve and improve the bottom line.

    You will learn:

    • Key elements of negotiating integrated service agreements
    • Where you are vulnerable and how to perform a fraud focused risk assessment
    • Best practices in documentation and revenue cycle management
    • How to avoid the PR nightmare of non-covered services and other surprise medical bills

Anthony Minge, EdD, is the Reimbursement and Compliance Partner at Fitch & Associates; Kevin Fairlie, JD, is a healthcare compliance attorney based in St. Louis; and Steve Murphy is a senior executive with experience integrating health-related businesses, including EMS, in value-based delivery models.
